Saw cutting of cores and tubes: any wall, but with dust
On this page · calculators
How it works
The core stays still or moves along a table; a toothed circular blade passes through it and removes a strip of material as wide as the teeth (the kerf). ISO 11093-9 requires test samples cut at 90° ± 1°, clean and undeformed, and recommends a circular saw for this reason.
Strengths and limits
- Strengths: any wall thickness, paper and plastic, a square edge, no deformation of the diameter.
- Limits: paper dust or plastic chips to extract, noise, and a material loss equal to the kerf (usually 1–3 mm). Burrs, especially internal ones, can snag on the shaft lugs or chucks: they often have to be removed after cutting.
When to choose it
Thick walls (formwork tubes, paper mill and metal cores), rigid PVC tubes, batches with many different sizes. In clean areas (food, pharmaceuticals) you need good extraction or a different cutting method.
